Wet Beetleing

AS THE LAST COMMERCIAL BEETLERS IN EXISTENCE, DISCOVER A FABRIC UNLIKE ANY OTHER FORGED FROM 300 YEARS OF OUR HISTORY.

What is Wet Beetling?

Forged from a glorious 300 year history, William Clark & Sons are the only commercial beetlers still in operation. Our Wet Beetling is a traditional finishing process that involves treating the fabric with a solution before being loaded onto the beetling engines by hand, where it is pounded for approximately 140 hours. Routinely this is done with potato starch to create our 1011 beetled linen for tailors.

CENTURIES OLD KNOWLEDGE AND CRAFTMANSHIP

Traditionally this process has always been performed on linen, but with constant developments in fibre production we are continually striving to create new and innovative products giving this historic process renewed relevance in today's world. We are now exploring what performance finishes can be added through the process while retaining the unmistakable character of this historic base cloth.
