Dry Beetling

creating a unique sheen like no other using a 300-year old process with traditional beetling technique.

What is Dry Beetling?

Dry beetling is a simplified alternative to the traditional approach to the process, in which fabric is wound onto the beetling beams dry and pounded to create a soft handle and gentle lustre. The sheen created is softer than through traditional or wet beetling, offering an alternative aesthetic. Each fabric quality is unique and the handle can be tailored through time spent in the process.

CREATING A UNQIUE BEETLED FABRIC FOR YOU

Dry beetling is a quicker process than wet beetling, the time required depends on the volume of fabric being produced and the handle desired. Additional finishes can be added to the fabric prior to beetling to add performance though these must be sympathetic to the mechanical action of the engines. As beetling has remained virtually unchanged for three centuries, we love exploring what the process can do to different fibres.
